Employee satisfaction and Business success
Employee satisfaction and Business success
14 March 2005

There exists a correlation between Employee satisfaction in the workforce and Business success. Companies can expect a multitude of benefits, by investing resources back into their staff.

In order to achieve the optimum in human resources, strategies to increase employee retention, motivation and loyalty need to be implemented. These include rewarding and recognizing individual employees and focusing on the creation of a harmonious and nurturing work environment.

The graphs below reflect how Employee satisfaction can affect a Company’s growth by reducing turnover and by creating an avenue for internal recruitment and referral.

GRAPH 1 - shows 85% of highly satisfied Employee’s would intend to stay in their current employment for more than two years, and

GRAPH 2 - shows 71% of highly satisfied Employee’s would go on to recommend the company to their friends.

GRAPH 1 – INTENTION TO STAY BY SATISFACTION LEVEL

GRAPH 2 – LIKELINESS OF FURTHER RECOMMEDATIONS BY SATISFACTION LEVEL

Statistics reveal that reward and recognition programs can increase an Employee’s intention to stay by 27% and increase motivation by up to 38%. There is indication that Employee’s intention to stay also correlates with monetary rewards, although to a lesser degree.

These figures are significant, and support management to prioritize Employee satisfaction. Companies can expect to reduce staff turnover, whilst increasing motivation and productivity.

Retaining satisfied and motivated Employees can be achieved with the following strategies:

  • The most basic of these starts with reward and recognition of work that is well deserved. Larger companies especially need to pay closer attention to appreciating their employees as individuals.
  • The creation of a harmonious and nurturing environment is an even more essential factor. Staying informed on how Employees feel about their jobs and their workplace is critical to determine issues of concern and to develop the appropriate action plans.

Finally, the most influential reasons determining overall satisfaction are:

  • Pride and respect for Employer,
  • Leadership skills of management,
  • Trust,
  • Teamwork and
  • Employee’s natural affinity for that type of work.
