Words of Wisdom

Be a wise candidate!

I'm never against any candidates seeking other agents and search firms to expand the job search radius to the maximum. However, in the very competitive markets of today, there are a few things that candidates should look out for to protect and safeguard their own interests:

Know where your resumes have been sent to:

  • many candidates allow agents to act on their behalf and forward their resumes to undisclosed recipients (clients).
  • This practice gives your agent the authority to send your resume(s) everywhere.
  • Who knows if your resume may have circulated back to your current or past employers, or worse still, the same resumes would have arrived on the hiring manager's desk in multiples (as you may have applied yourself through newspaper ads).

Candidate's priveleges:

  • Candidates have full rights to know which companies their information has been sent to. Ultimately the information that is going to be sent is your personal data. You hold the ultimate decision of what is allowed to be passed on. Therefore, all you candidates out there, just keep that in mind.
  • Agents who don't tell you where your resume(s) have been sent to are rather unethical and unprofessional, as they are trying to cover you for as many companies as possible and hope that ‘one' of them may get lucky.
  • Hence, it won't make you look good, when your intentions to move on, have already been widely known before anything is confirmed.
